In May 1979 Sathara Publishers published their first educational magazine, “Sathara”. It was targeted at students that are preparing for the O/L and A/L examinations. It carried educational material that helped students to expand their knowledge on different subjects. Sathara magazine is regarded as the first of its kind to be published in Sri Lanka. It was an instant success as circulation increased every week. Sathara paper managed not only to win the hearts of students but also teachers and parents. Today the company publish 10 educational monthly magazines and 100+ educational books on different subjects. Over the last 35 years Sathara has helped hundreds of thousands of students to succeed in their examinations.

In 1982 Sathara publishers rented a small place in Maharagama and started its own printing with one-letter press machine. Now it has a fully equipped printing press with several offset folding, binding machines and Sathara provides direct employment to 80+ employees and indirect employment to 50+ teachers.
